On The Way -CD The recordings are not up-to-standard with Shania's later recordings, but if you can overlook the quality of the recordings and appreciate the lyric and vocal performance that Shania gives, you realize that long before Mutt came on the scene, Shania had the gift. Besides the words to a few of the songs, I'm also going to offer my
opinion, review and interpretation of these recordings. Admittedly,
I'm not the most impartial reviewer, however a few of these songs have
touched a chord within me and I feel compelled to write my thoughts about
them.
Send It With Love Words and music by Eilleen Shania Twain & Paul Sabu Whenever I think of you it seems so unfair;
And I give my heart in a prayer
I've come to realize that I'm on my own.
Oh, I give my heart in a prayer
Is it right or is it wrong
I've come to realize that I'm on my own. And I give my heart in a prayer
Send It With Love Review by bmac It's impossible to listen to this song and not feel the pain that Shania was feeling after the death of her mother and father in that tragic accident. The song is a powerful, mournful piece that Shania must have written during the period where she was struggling to cope, understand, survive and raise her two brothers without her parents. You can almost see the tears running down her face as she penned the words while sitting alone in the dark. The more that I listen to the song, the more difficult it is for me to keep back my own tears; the song is that haunting. A very different lyric, tone and melody than we are used to hearing from Shania...the dark undertones and somber bass convey the sadness and heartbreak throughout the song. The lyrics are powerful and pull at your emotions, making it difficult to swallow and breathe without getting choked up. I'm lucky that my parents are alive today. For those who lose their parents, especially in such a tragic way...this song speaks volumes for what they are going through and how hard it is to understand why it had to happen in the first place. This song could stand on it's own today among any of Shania's hit songs in my opinion. It's not the type of song that would normally be released as a single, but it would be hard to ignore on an album of songs for the powerful message of lost love, life and death it delivers. bmac October 24, 1999
