Concert Review by Bryan from Pennsylvania. To see some pics from the show, click here.

I was one of the fortunate people to attend the Shania Twain concert at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey and following is my concert review and miscellaneous notes. I apologize for the length, but do hope you will read as I have so much to share.

I live in Central Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg, and traveled 153 miles, 2 ½ hours with my friend to get to the show. And believe me, it was worth every mile drove, every dollar spent, and every minute traveled.  As I expected, the concert was fabulous. The arena is relatively small and provided a great venue in which to view Shania's concert. I had attended one other Shania concert in Hershey, PA in an outdoor football stadium, so this was different seeing Shania in an arena (a small arena). When first entering, the arena I realized there was really not a bad seat in the place. Sure everyone wants to be up close, but there were great seats all around because of the closeness of the stage to all of the seating. My seats, incidentally, were 20 rows from the stage on the floor.

Enough of that, what about the concert ? Well Shane Minor opened up beginning at about 7:55 p.m. He played for about 40 minutes or until 8:35 p.m. The lights came on and people began milling around and talking. At about 8:55 or 9:00 p.m. The lights went dark, and you could see the band members taking their places on the stage. Shania then appeared with that huge yellow spotlight and began shining it all around the arena saying "Hello New Jersey, How are You Doing ?". She then busted into 'Honey, I'm Home and the beginning of what was to be a great concert. Early on in the show, she did very little talking between songs. I had premature thoughts that Shania was tired either physically or mentally of doing the show (a show she later claims to have performed about 160 times since it started about 1 ½ years ago).

But as the show progressed she seemed to open up and was her usual self, interacting with fans around the stage and on the catwalk that stretched out into the floor seating. She performed 2 songs that I had not seen the last time which were 'When' and 'I Won't Leave You Lonely'. As is normal, she brought a young fan (a girl) onto the stage to sing the refrain of 'When' and the place went crazy because the girl knew every word. Shania even gave the girl the microphone and stood back and just listened like the rest of us. Later, Shania climbed down off the stage in front to give another young fan (a boy) a chance to sing the refrain of 'Don't Be Stupid'. And to everyone's amazement, he too, knew all the words exactly. There was the usual high school choir and the high school drum corps for the 'God Bless and Child' and the 'If You're Not In It For Love' songs respectively. All total, she sang close to 18 -20 of her songs.

Shania interacts with her fans like no other performer. She is constantly hand slapping, joking, waving and signing autographs all while singing her songs. One special moment happened when Shania was being carried throughout the arena on the platform and passed within 5 - 6 feet of where I was standing. WOW !! That close to the Shania Twain!!

There were two breaks built into the show with both being very short (just a couple minutes) and two outfit changes at the breaks. Shania first appeared with the leopard print outfit with a high collar and then changed into a black stretch top with a neon green band around the middle exposing her midriff with black stretch pants and a green band around the waist. The last costume change, much to my delight, was into the aluminum colored top and shorts she wore on the CBS special in Dallas, Texas. I The band changed into neon shirts with Shania and then into the aluminum-colored shirts when she wore that. I think it is so cool the way the band wears outfits that match Shania's. The light show was excellent. The pyrotechnics (I think that is the word) were also great, being strategically placed in certain songs with the crowd going wild. And as was stated in other reviews, Shania finished the show with 'If You're Not In It For Love, I'm Outta Here'. At the end of this song, there were blower guns shooting confetti all around the place.

Shania continued singing amongst all the confetti, and along with the changing light color, it looked so cool. I looked at my watch and the time was 10:40 p.m.   I hope this is not too long, but here are a few thoughts to summarize my experience. Shania could have easily shortened the show she performs on this mini-tour. But as I mentioned earlier, she sang for 1 hour and 45 minutes with two very short breaks and performed more songs then when I saw her last. Even though she may be 'burned-out' of this show, and tired singing these same songs, this lady sings her heart out and she does it for her fans. She even mentioned in the show how thankful she is for all that has happened in her life, and knows that it is the fans buying records, attending concerts, and all of the other support that has made her the big entertainer that she is today. I feel that Shania is a nice and very genuine person. I don't see an inflated ego and believe that her childhood and upbringing played a major part in her attitude toward people and how she treats others. I see an honest, caring person who believes in family and friends. Shania is an entertainer who is at top of the music industry right now. But, as I have saw numerous times during interviews, she doesn't forget to thank and show gratitude to those who have put her there. And that my friends, is me, you and all of the millions of fans who have bought her music and attended her concerts. I am thankful I've had the opportunity to attend her concert and look forward to seeing her again.

I would like to thank Terry Lee from www.shania.nu and bmac   www.sol.spaceports.com/~fv for posting all of the Shania news and concert reviews. I would also like to thank all the members of the 'Shania Twain U.S. Online Fan Club' who have supplied information to Terry and Bmac that has been posted on their websites. I get all of my Shania news quickly from these guys, a lot of which is sent in by other fan club members like myself. Again, I say THANKS EVERYONE. I hope the little that I have to contribute can help other Shania fans that have yet to see her in concert.

(Hey, Bmac, I hope you can post my concert review, and if you do, I hope you include this paragraph, because it is truly is from the heart. Thanks.)

Concert Review by bmac

Wow! Where do I begin! What a night! This was my third time seeing Shania live and it was the best of the three! The story  starts on Thursday really, with Peter Lovell of Shania Twain's Wallpaper World, arriving at our home in New Jersey.  Peter and his father had been our guests for Thanksgiving Day after flying over from England for the show.  We first introduced them to our Thanksgiving dinner, then we settled in to watch Shania on CBS.  On Friday, we introduced them to Philadelphia area cuisine: Cheesesteaks, hoagies, pizza and buffalo wings before the Shania concert!  After some Alka-Seltzer, we left for the show.

We arrived in Trenton a few hours before show (my daughter, her boyfriend Dustin, Peter Lovell and I) to try to meet as many U.S. Fan Club members as possible, but the rain wasn't cooperating. We were forced to move indoors and weren't able to meet many of you at all.  In a miracle of miracles, somehow Byrdman and his wife picked me out of the crowd and we got a picture of the three of us together which I hope we will be able to post here later.  It was great to meet you both!

Shane Minor opened for Shania in this tiny venue. Sovereign Bank Arena only holds 10,000 people! There was hardly a bad seat in the house I'm sure.  Anyway, Shane warmed up the crowd and sounded pretty good doing it.  I think his future is bright in Nashville.  But we came to see Shania!

Shania opened the show wearing her leopard skin outfit and looked gorgeous as usual! She opened with "Honey, I'm Home" as I recall.  She worked in just about every one of her hits with a couple exceptions: "You've Got A Way" and "The Woman In Me".  Really the only slower numbers that were included in the set list were "You're Still The One" (of course!) and "God Bless The Child".   When Shania had finished singing "GBTC", I gave her the donation from the STNAOFC.  She looked me straight in the eye and said: "Thank you. Thank you so much!" I had chills running up and down my spine!  I think we really touched Shania's heart tonight.  Thanks to all of you!

Shania next changed into a solid black outfit with a green strip across the chest.   I hadn't seen this outfit before and the show kept on rocking! The crowd in Trenton was up and dancing for just about every song!  I know that I was anyway! The energy was so high it was just incredible.

Shania's voice sounded great...fully recovered from her year-long tour of earlier this year.  The band were awesome as usual and there were just enough changes in the program from previous shows to keep you on your toes!

The last custom change saw Shania don the silver outfit she wore in Dallas! My daughter wore a matching silver outfit to the show and held a sign that read: "Can I Have A Hug?"  Well, she didn't get the hug, but she got a big smile from Shania when she saw it in the crowd.  The glow sticks still seem to hold their charm for getting people up on stage. A young lady had formed glow sticks into glasses, earrings, necklace and headband and was brought up on stage with Shania! There is your tip for the day: Don't forget the glow sticks!

Also, Shania brought a couple of very young children up on stage with her to sing! The little girl she brought up really belted out the song with Shania! She was fantastic! I wish I knew her name, and I think I got a good picture of her singing with Shania to post here.

Well, another concert is over! I enjoyed it immensely as did the entire crowd. How are we supposed to wait until 2001 to see Shania live again? I know I can't wait!
